IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 12: “Not by firing bullets like the CPM government or by keeping industrial approvals stuck in red-tape files like Mamata Banerjee’s administration, people are now themselves coming forward to provide land for industries at a fair price.” Making this claim during a press conference on Friday, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari outlined the new government’s vision for industrial development in West Bengal. From bringing the Tata Group back to Singur to demanding a CBI or high-level investigation into the expenditure of the previous Trinamool Congress government’s Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), the Chief Minister made several major announcements.

Clarifying the roadmap of the new administration regarding industrial growth and employment, the Chief Minister stated that West Bengal would now become employment-oriented and industry-friendly. He said the government was acquiring land by following the Land Acquisition Act of 1984 and emphasised that the people of West Bengal wanted freedom from unemployment. According to him, the new government would prove that industries could be brought to the state without incidents of violence such as those witnessed in Nandigram.

He also revealed that there are several railway workshops in Kanchrapara and Kharagpur and that he had made a special request to the Union Railway Minister to create new factories and generate additional employment opportunities in those areas.

The possibility of bringing the Tata Group back to Singur, the Chief Minister said he would not disclose all details at the moment but expressed confidence that the Tata Group would return to West Bengal. He mentioned that although the previous government had returned the Singur land to farmers, no agricultural activity was taking place there at present. According to him, the nature of the land had been severely affected due to the presence of rods and cement beneath the soil.

The Chief Minister further stated that veteran five-time MLA Tapas Roy had been given the responsibility of the Industry Department. Unlike the previous government, he claimed that the new administration did not want to engage in false promises or mere “photo sessions.” He said that several major industrial proposals had already been received by the government and a high-level team had been formed to examine and carry out preliminary assessments of those proposals.

The concept of the new “Trifala Industry” model, he said that West Bengal would witness a combination of large-scale, medium-scale, and small-scale industries, creating a balanced industrial ecosystem and opening new avenues for employment across the state.

Launching a strong attack on the previous Trinamool Congress government’s Bengal Global Business Summit, Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Mamata Banerjee had facilitated a payment of ₹635 crore from the state treasury to an event management group in the name of organising business summits. He warned that the new government would not overlook the alleged misuse of such a huge amount of public money and that a complete investigation, including a possible CBI or high-level probe, would be conducted.
