IIE DIGITAL DESK : Tehran, May 22: Iran has firmly rejected claims made by former US President Donald Trump regarding the transfer of enriched uranium, escalating tensions over an ongoing ceasefire-related negotiation framework. The statement came amid reports that uranium-related conditions were part of broader diplomatic discussions between Iran and the United States.
Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars News Agency, the United States had reportedly demanded that Tehran hand over around 400 kilograms of enriched uranium as part of ceasefire conditions and a proposed settlement framework. The US position, as described in the reports, was aimed at preventing Iran from advancing its nuclear weapons capability.
Iran’s Supreme Leader’s representative, Mojtaba Khamenei, strongly dismissed the demand and asserted that Iran would never transfer its uranium stockpile outside the country under any circumstances. His statement effectively rejected the US proposal and reinforced Tehran’s long-standing stance on maintaining control over its nuclear materials.
US President Donald Trump had earlier claimed that Iran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium stockpile and suggested that both sides were moving closer to a potential peace agreement. His remarks had raised expectations of a possible diplomatic breakthrough, but Iranian officials have now directly contradicted those claims.
Reports also suggest that the United States had presented a five-point proposal aimed at a broader peace framework. Among the reported conditions were permission for Iran to maintain a nuclear facility, restrictions related to compensation claims made by Tehran, and demands for the transfer of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium. Additionally, discussions reportedly included the possible return of only 25% of Iran’s frozen foreign assets.
Despite ongoing ceasefire arrangements, the situation between Iran and the United States remains highly sensitive. Analysts warn that tensions could escalate again depending on diplomatic developments and regional security dynamics.
Recent reports have indicated that Trump held discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran. These talks are believed to have focused on possible future strategies involving both the United States and Israel in relation to Iran’s nuclear programme and regional influence.
