
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; June 16: The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded a high-level and transparent investigation into the alleged suicide of actress Sanchita Ugale. The organisation has also written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging his direct intervention in the matter.
Sanchita Ugale, known for her work in television shows such as Kumkum Bhagya and Wagle Ki Duniya, was found dead at her residence in Nalasopara East, Mumbai. The incident is believed to be a case of alleged suicide, which has shocked the entertainment industry and her fans.
The cine workers’ body expressed deep sorrow over her untimely death and stated that at a young age, she was building a promising career in the industry. It further said that her sudden demise raises serious questions that require a fair, impartial, and comprehensive investigation.
AICWA has urged the Maharashtra government to ensure that all possible angles are examined and that no aspect of the case is ignored. The organisation also called for the establishment of a dedicated committee to look into the increasing number of deaths and mental health-related concerns within the entertainment industry.
The body emphasised that the safety, well-being, and support systems for artists and workers must be reviewed urgently, highlighting that repeated cases of alleged suicides in the industry require stronger institutional attention.
Police have begun an investigation and are examining the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities have stated that further details will be shared after the inquiry progresses.
