Kolkata (August 26,2023) : The West Bengal Legislative Assembly is likely to pass a motion to celebrate Paschimbanga Diwas, the state's foundation day, on September 4. The motion was proposed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday. The motion calls for making September 4 a public holiday and organizing cultural events and programs to mark the occasion. It also calls for hoisting the state flag and paying homage to the martyrs of the state.

The motion is likely to be passed unanimously by the Assembly. The state government has already started preparations for the event. Paschimbanga Diwas is celebrated every year on September 4 to mark the formation of the state of West Bengal in 1947. The day is a public holiday in the state. In her proposal, Banerjee said that Paschimbanga Diwas is a day to celebrate the rich culture and heritage of the state.
