 IIE DIGITAL DESK : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached out to the grieving family of a Purulia resident who tragically lost his life in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident, which occurred in the picturesque Baisaran Valley, has sent shockwaves through the nation, highlighting the vulnerability of tourists in conflict zones.

The victim, identified as a 35-year-old man from Purulia, was among the 28 individuals killed in the attack. Reports indicate that the assailants, suspected to be militants with links to Pakistan, targeted a group of tourists, leading to a massacre that also left over 20 others injured. The use of body-mounted cameras by the attackers suggests a premeditated assault aimed at creating propaganda material.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, upon learning of the tragedy, immediately contacted the bereaved family to offer her condolences and assure them of the state's support. In a statement, she condemned the attack as a heinous act of terror and called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. She also announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the family of the deceased. 

The state government has directed the West Bengal Police to coordinate with their counterparts in Jammu and Kashmir to facilitate the repatriation of the victim's body. Authorities are also providing assistance to the injured, ensuring they receive the necessary medical care.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in conflict-prone areas. While Jammu and Kashmir has been a popular destination for travelers, recent events underscore the need for heightened security measures to protect visitors. The state government is in discussions with the central authorities to enhance safety protocols for tourists in such regions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site to assess the situation and met with officials to review security arrangements. He assured the public that the government would take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of citizens and bring the culprits to justice.
