Darjeeling Observes Strike in Protest Against School Girl Harassment and Murder

Darjeeling (August 26,2023) : Darjeeling came to a standstill on Saturday as all sectors of the hill town observed a strike to protest against the alleged sexual harassment and murder of a school girl. Shops, businesses, schools, and government offices were closed, and public transport was off the roads. The strike was called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), the main political party in the hills. The GJM has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident and the arrest of the culprits.

The girl's body was found in a forest near Darjeeling on Friday. She had been missing since Wednesday. The police have arrested a man in connection with the case. The strike has caused widespread disruption in Darjeeling. The tourists have been inconvenienced as they were unable to visit the popular hill station. The GJM has said that the strike will continue until the demands are met.
