IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, August 1: Jamshedpur FC has officially withdrawn from the Indian Super League (ISL) after competing in the tournament for nine consecutive seasons. The club, which made its ISL debut in the 2017–18 season, announced on Friday night that it will not participate in the 2026–27 ISL season, bringing an end to nearly a decade of uninterrupted involvement in India's premier football competition.

Jamshedpur FC enjoyed one of the most successful periods in its history during the 2021–22 season, when the club won the prestigious ISL League Shield after finishing at the top of the league standings. Since joining the competition, the club has established itself as one of the regular participants in the league and has earned a reputation for developing competitive squads and producing consistent performances.

The decision to withdraw comes after the club failed to deposit the ₹55 lakh participation fee with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) within the stipulated deadline under the league's revised participation regulations. According to the new rules governing the competition, all clubs were required to submit the prescribed participation fee before the deadline to confirm their place in the upcoming season.

Although the AIFF extended the deadline until July 31, providing clubs with additional time to complete the payment process, Jamshedpur FC was unable to fulfil the financial requirement within the extended period. As a result, the club decided not to take part in the 2026–27 edition of the Indian Super League.

In contrast, Inter Kashi successfully deposited the required participation fee within the extended deadline, ensuring its compliance with the federation's regulations. Reports indicate that all 12 other ISL clubs also completed the payment formalities before the deadline, confirming their participation in the upcoming season.

The withdrawal of Jamshedpur FC marks a significant development for Indian football, considering the club's long-standing presence in the league since its inception. Over the years, the team built a loyal fan base and played a key role in strengthening the competitive landscape of the ISL, with the League Shield triumph in the 2021–22 campaign remaining the club's biggest achievement.

The club's decision is expected to have a notable impact on the composition of the 2026–27 Indian Super League, while football fans and stakeholders will closely watch how both the league authorities and Jamshedpur FC plan their future course following this unexpected exit from India's top-tier professional football competition.
