IIE DIGITAL DESK : India rose above the ghosts of the past and reclaimed global glory, lifting the T20 World Cup title with a stunning and emphatic victory over New Zealand. The iconic stadium in Ahmedabad, once associated with heartbreak, turned into a theatre of celebration as India defeated the Kiwis by a commanding 96 runs. Under the dazzling lights and in front of a roaring crowd of more than 132,000 spectators at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Men in Blue delivered a performance that not only rewrote history but also erased the painful memories that had long lingered in the city.

India piled up a colossal total of 255 for 5 after being asked to bat first in the final. The innings was powered by a spectacular combination of fearless stroke play and calculated aggression. Sanju Samson led the charge with a magnificent 89 off 46 balls, an innings decorated with eight towering sixes and five boundaries. Though he fell just short of a century, his knock laid the foundation for India’s dominance. Alongside him, Abhishek Sharma silenced critics with a blistering half-century. Having struggled throughout the tournament, he found form at the perfect moment, smashing 52 runs and reaching his fifty in just 18 balls.

The Indian innings gathered unstoppable momentum during the powerplay itself. Within the first six overs, the scoreboard had already raced to 92 runs, setting the tone for a massive total. Ishan Kishan continued the assault with a breathtaking 54 from just 25 balls, sending the ball repeatedly beyond the boundary ropes. For a moment, it seemed India might even push past the 300-run mark. However, New Zealand found a brief window of hope when Jimmy Neesham struck in the 16th over, dismissing Samson, Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession.

Yet India finished with another flourish as Shivam Dube smashed a fiery cameo of 26 runs from only eight balls, including a spectacular final over that produced 24 runs. The innings ended at a daunting 255, a total that looked almost impossible to chase in a World Cup final.

New Zealand’s response never truly gathered momentum. The towering target weighed heavily on their batters from the start. Jasprit Bumrah immediately struck in his opening over by removing Rachin Ravindra, triggering a collapse. Axar Patel soon added to the damage, dismissing both Finn Allen and Glenn Phillips and breaking the backbone of the Kiwi batting order. By the end of the powerplay, New Zealand had crawled to just 52 for 3, already struggling under the pressure.

Only Tim Seifert and captain Mitchell Santner showed brief resistance, scoring 52 and 43 respectively. But India’s bowling attack was relentless. Bumrah delivered a masterclass in fast bowling, finishing with extraordinary figures of four wickets for just 15 runs. Axar Patel supported brilliantly with three wickets, ensuring the chase collapsed long before the finish line. New Zealand were eventually bundled out for 159.

The stadium erupted in celebration. Among the spectators witnessing the historic moment were former Indian captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, both of whom had previously led India to T20 World Cup glory. Their presence added an emotional dimension to the triumph, symbolizing the continuity of India’s cricketing legacy.

The victory marked India’s third T20 World Cup title and their second consecutive triumph, a feat no other nation has achieved. More importantly, it transformed Ahmedabad from a place of heartbreak into a monument of redemption. Under the rising glow of celebration and pride, India did not merely win a trophy; it announced its unchallenged dominance in the world of T20 cricket.
