IIE Digital Desk : Sourav Ganguly, former India captain, questioned the decision to appoint Ajinkya Rahane as Test vice-captain just after his comeback to the team. Rahane was recalled to the Test squad for the West Indies tour after being dropped for the South Africa series. He was then named Rohit Sharma's deputy for the tour. Ganguly said that he found it difficult to understand the decision to appoint Rahane as vice-captain so soon after his comeback. He said that Rahane had been out of form for a while and that there were other players who could have been considered for the role.

"I find it difficult to understand Rahane's elevation to vice-captaincy just after his comeback," Ganguly told PTI. "He was out of form for a while and there were other players who could have been considered for the role. I don't understand the thought process behind it." Ganguly also said that he was concerned about the lack of consistency in India's selection policy. He said that the team had been inconsistent in recent years and that the selection committee needed to do a better job of picking the right players for the right positions.
