IIE DIGITAL DESK : India’s dramatic victory over England in the semifinal of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup created a wave of celebration across the cricketing world as the defending champions booked their place in a second consecutive final. In a high-scoring thriller at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India successfully defended a massive total of 253 runs and restricted England to 246 for seven, sealing a narrow seven-run win and setting up a title clash with New Zealand national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The victory sparked widespread praise from cricket administrators, former players and fans who hailed the team’s collective performance under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. The match turned into a run-fest, but India held their nerves in the crucial final overs thanks to a disciplined bowling effort led by Jasprit Bumrah. Many experts later described Bumrah as the decisive factor in the thrilling contest.
India’s strong total was built around a spectacular innings from Sanju Samson, who smashed a brilliant 89 off just 42 balls, lighting up the stadium with a flurry of sixes and boundaries. He was well supported by Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, who all contributed valuable runs to push India beyond the 250 mark.
England responded strongly during the chase with a stunning century from Jacob Bethell, whose aggressive 105 kept the match alive till the final moments. However, India’s bowlers showed exceptional composure under pressure. Bumrah’s crucial spell in the death overs, along with key wickets from Pandya and support from other bowlers, ensured England fell just short of the daunting target.
Former cricketers and officials quickly took to social media to congratulate the team. Suresh Raina praised India’s fearless cricket and strong team spirit, while Harbhajan Singh highlighted the importance of the death-over bowling that ultimately tilted the match in India’s favour. Irfan Pathan went a step further, declaring Bumrah his “man of the match” in what he described as a 500-run game, emphasizing that the fast bowler’s economy rate and control under pressure made the decisive difference.
Other former players including Robin Uthappa, Shikhar Dhawan and VVS Laxman also praised India’s balanced performance with bat, ball and in the field, particularly highlighting the fielding brilliance of Axar Patel.
With the victory, India moved one step closer to defending their world title. The Men in Blue will now face New Zealand in what promises to be a thrilling final, as the team looks to complete another memorable chapter in its World Cup journey.
