IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, May 30: The disappointing season, Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player in IPL history, has stepped down from the captaincy of Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise has accepted his request to relieve him of leadership duties.
Lucknow confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday (May 29). The team expressed gratitude for Pant’s contributions as captain and acknowledged his efforts during his tenure.
Lucknow’s director Tom Moody said, “Rishabh Pant had made this request to the franchise, and we have accepted it with respect.”
The 2025 season, Lucknow had acquired the Indian wicketkeeper-batter for ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive signing in IPL history. However, after carrying the burden of the hefty price tag, Pant struggled with form throughout the season. He managed to score only 269 runs last season, and although there was a slight improvement this year with 312 runs, it was still below expectations.
