New Delhi (August 02,2023) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked NDA MPs to reach out
to Muslim women on the triple talaq ban. He said that the ban is a historic
step towards women empowerment and that it is important to ensure that Muslim
women are aware of their rights. Modi made the remarks during a meeting with NDA MPs on
Tuesday. He said that the ban on triple talaq is a "victory for
women" and that it will help to "empower" them. He also said
that it is important to ensure that Muslim women are aware of their rights
under the law.
The ban on triple talaq was passed by the Parliament in July
2019. The law makes it a criminal offense for a man to divorce his wife by
saying "talaq" three times. The law also provides for a punishment of
up to three years in jail for men who violate the law. Modi's remarks come at a time when there is a growing
awareness of the issue of triple talaq among Muslim women. In recent years,
there have been several high-profile cases of Muslim women who have been
divorced by their husbands through triple talaq. These cases have highlighted
the need for legal protection for Muslim women.
