Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on Yellow Alert as Heavy Rains Continue

Uttarakhand (August 21,2023) : The hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are on yellow alert as heavy rains continue to lash the region. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in the two states till August 24. The death toll in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand has risen to 88. In Himachal Pradesh, 47 people have died, while 41 have lost their lives in Uttarakhand.

The rains have caused widespread damage to infrastructure in both states. Several roads and bridges have been damaged, and there have been reports of landslides and mudslides. The authorities have evacuated people from low-lying areas and are taking steps to prevent further damage. The IMD has advised people to stay away from exposed areas and to avoid driving on flooded roads. The rains are expected to abate from August 25. However, the IMD has warned that there is a possibility of flash floods and landslides in the hill states even after the rains stop.
