New Delhi (August 21,2023) : The government is planning to pass new criminal laws by the end of this year, sources said. The three bills that will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act are currently being examined by a parliamentary committee. The committee is expected to submit its report within three months, after which the government will introduce the bills in Parliament. The bills are likely to be passed in the Winter Session of Parliament, which usually starts in December.

The new laws are being introduced to address the challenges posed by modern crime. The IPC, which was enacted in 1860, is outdated and does not cover many of the crimes that are prevalent today. The CrPC is also in need of reform, as it is cumbersome and slow. The new laws are expected to make it easier for the police to investigate and prosecute crimes. They are also expected to provide better protection to victims of crime.

The government's plans to pass new criminal laws have been welcomed by law enforcement officials and legal experts. They say that the new laws are necessary to keep pace with the changing nature of crime. However, some critics have expressed concerns that the new laws could be used to suppress dissent and human rights. They say that the government should be careful not to give the police too much power.
