IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, August 1: The Congress party launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the NEET question paper leak controversy, alleging that instead of apologising to the people of the country, the Prime Minister is attempting to portray himself as a victim in the matter.

Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh made the allegations in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday. He claimed that the Prime Minister should have taken responsibility and expressed regret over issues affecting students and the education system rather than shifting attention towards himself.

Jairam Ramesh alleged that Prime Minister Modi frequently makes disrespectful remarks against his political opponents and former Prime Ministers and attempts to damage their public image by making what he described as baseless accusations. He claimed that such political attacks divert attention from important issues concerning the country.

The Congress leader further stated that the Prime Minister should apologise to the people over several major controversies, including the alleged question paper leaks under the National Testing Agency (NTA), police action during student protests, disputes related to the Ram Mandir Trust, and the impact of demonetisation.

According to Jairam Ramesh, the NEET paper leak issue has created serious concerns among students and their families, who have been demanding accountability and transparency in the examination system. He alleged that the government has failed to properly address the concerns of thousands of medical aspirants affected by the controversy.

The Congress leader also criticised the handling of student protests and claimed that the government should have shown greater sensitivity towards young people raising concerns over examination irregularities. He argued that issues related to education and competitive examinations require immediate attention and a fair resolution.

The allegations come amid a wider political debate over the functioning of the examination system and the role of agencies responsible for conducting national-level entrance tests. Opposition parties have repeatedly raised questions regarding the credibility of the examination process and demanded strict action against those responsible for irregularities.

The ruling side, however, has maintained that necessary steps are being taken to investigate cases related to examination malpractice and ensure justice for affected candidates. Authorities have been working to address concerns surrounding examination security and prevent such incidents in the future.

The NEET paper leak controversy has remained a major political issue, with the opposition continuing to target the government over the matter and demanding accountability. The Congress has reiterated that students’ interests and the integrity of the examination system should remain the top priority.
