IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, 6 May: The likelihood of thunderstorms and rain over South Bengal, including Kolkata and several surrounding districts, is expected to gradually decrease, according to the latest forecast from the Alipore Meteorological Department. With the weakening of weather disturbances, temperatures and humidity levels are likely to rise, leading to increased discomfort in the coming days.
Weather officials have indicated that during the next 24 hours, isolated light rainfall may still occur in parts of the region. Districts such as East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia, and Bankura may experience scattered spells of rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms. However, the overall intensity and frequency of such weather activity are expected to reduce significantly.
Thunderstorm activity subsides, a gradual increase in heat is anticipated across South Bengal. The combination of rising temperatures and humidity may lead to uncomfortable weather conditions for residents, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas.
North Bengal, meanwhile, several districts are expected to continue experiencing rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. However, meteorologists have suggested that from Saturday onwards, the possibility of thunderstorms and rain in North Bengal will also begin to decline, indicating a broader shift toward calmer and warmer weather conditions across the state.
The state is moving toward a transitional phase where pre-monsoon storm activity is easing, giving way to rising heat levels and humid conditions across both South and North Bengal.
