Remembered as one of the foremost architects of the Bengal Renaissance, Raja Rammohan Roy continues to inspire generations through his progressive ideas, social reforms, and relentless fight against social evils.

The birth anniversary of Raja Rammohan Roy is being observed across West Bengal with respect and remembrance. Raja Rammohan Roy was born on May 22, 1772, in the village of Radhanagar in Hooghly district of present-day West Bengal. He is widely regarded as the pioneer of social and religious reform movements in India. Roy strongly campaigned against practices such as Sati and worked tirelessly for the upliftment of women and the spread of modern education. His contributions laid the foundation for a new era of intellectual awakening and reform in Bengal as well as the rest of the country.
