IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  September 23: Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal met External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, with the two leaders discussing key aspects of Nepal-India relations and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Khanal conveyed his appreciation to the Government and people of India for extending solidarity and substantial assistance to Nepal in the aftermath of the devastating Bhotekoshi floods. He thanked India for its support at a critical time as Nepal dealt with the impact of the natural disaster.

According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions covered various dimensions of Nepal-India relations as well as matters of mutual interest. Both sides also exchanged views on strengthening the long-standing close and friendly ties between the two neighbouring countries.

The meeting underscored the continued focus on deepening bilateral engagement and advancing cooperation across areas of mutual interest. The two ministers also discussed ways to further consolidate the relationship and build on existing channels of cooperation between Nepal and India.

The interaction took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where leaders and senior representatives from across the world have gathered for high-level diplomatic engagements.
