New York (August 16,2023) : NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) has announced that July 2023 was the hottest month on record since 1880. The average global temperature for July was 1.67 degrees Fahrenheit (0.93 degrees Celsius) above the 20th century average. This is the 45th consecutive July to have broken the record for the hottest month on record. The July heat was particularly intense in the Arctic, where temperatures were up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit above average. This led to melting sea ice and widespread wildfires. The heat also caused droughts in several parts of the world, including Africa, southern Europe, and the western United States.

The record-breaking heat is a clear sign of the climate crisis. The Earth's atmosphere is warming at an alarming rate, and this is causing extreme weather events to become more common and more severe. Scientists warn that if we do not take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Earth will continue to warm, and the consequences will be devastating. We need to transition to a clean energy economy and invest in adaptation measures to protect ourselves from the effects of climate change. The record-breaking heat in July is a wake-up call. We need to act now to protect our planet and our future.
