Damasks (August 04,2023) : The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has confirmed the death of its leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, in a US raid in Syria. The group's Amaq news agency said that al-Qurayshi was killed in a "heroic operation" while resisting the US forces.

The US-led raid took place on Thursday in the town of Atmeh, near the Turkish border. The US said that al-Qurayshi detonated a bomb as US forces approached his compound, killing himself and his family members. Al-Qurayshi was the second ISIS leader to be killed in a US raid. The first, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in a raid in 2019. The death of al-Qurayshi is a major blow to ISIS. The group has been weakened in recent years, but it remains a threat.
