IIE Digital Desk : At least 10 people were killed and one person was trapped after the roof of a gym collapsed in eastern China on Monday, state media reported. The collapse happened in the city of Taizhou, Zhejiang province, at around 10 a.m. local time. The gym was being used by a group of people for morning exercises when the roof gave way.

The 10 people who were killed were all members of the exercise group, the report said. The one person who was trapped was rescued and taken to a hospital, where they were in stable condition. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. However, state media said that the gym was built in 2008 and had not been inspected for safety in recent years.

The collapse is the latest in a series of building accidents in China. In March, a hotel collapsed in the city of Quanzhou, Fujian province, killing 29 people. And in January, a shopping mall collapsed in the city of Shenzhen, Guangdong province, killing 38 people. The Chinese government has vowed to crack down on unsafe buildings. However, the country's rapid economic growth has led to a lax attitude towards safety in some cases.
