IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Mumbai, May 26: Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has once again sparked a major discussion in Bollywood after making strong comments related to actor Ranveer Singh and the ongoing controversy surrounding his reported “non-cooperation directive” by film workers’ bodies. The debate has intensified across the industry, with concerns being raised about production losses and the impact on daily wage workers.

The issue is linked to the fallout from Ranveer Singh’s exit from the much-anticipated film Don 3, which has reportedly led to tensions between the actor and the production team headed by Farhan Akhtar. Following this, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, which some reports have described as a “ban,” though officials have clarified it as a disciplinary industry action rather than an official prohibition.

The midst of the controversy, Sanjay Gupta commented on the wider impact of such disputes in the film industry. He reportedly highlighted that nearly 300 workers associated with large-scale productions can be affected when such projects stall or face uncertainty. His remarks underline the dependency of thousands of technicians, assistants, and daily wage workers whose livelihoods are directly linked to film schedules and continuity.

The statement has triggered mixed reactions within the entertainment industry. While some agree with Gupta’s concern over workers’ livelihoods, others argue that creative and contractual disagreements between actors and producers are part of the business and should be resolved internally without affecting broader production ecosystems.

Industry representatives such as Ashoke Pandit have also weighed in on the matter, clarifying that the FWICE action is a “non-cooperation directive” and not formally a ban, and stressing that dialogue remains open for resolution between the concerned parties.

The controversy continues to generate debate in Bollywood, especially around the balance between star power, production costs, and the livelihoods of behind-the-scenes workers who form the backbone of the Indian film industry.
