IIE DIGITAL DESK :  Renowned Bengali poet, lyricist and filmmaker Srijato Mukherjee was injured in a road accident on Tuesday evening, sparking concern across the Bengali literary community and among his admirers. News of the accident spread quickly, prompting widespread anxiety about his health and well-being.

Initial reports suggested that the poet had been admitted to hospital in a critical condition, which further heightened concern among readers, fellow writers and fans. However, later clarification from his family brought relief to many who had been worried about his condition.

Speaking about the incident, Srijato’s wife, Durba Banerjee, said that the poet is currently recovering at home and is not hospitalized. According to her, he suffered a muscle injury in the accident but is otherwise stable. Doctors have advised rest, and he is undergoing treatment at home under medical supervision.

Durba Banerjee reassured well-wishers that the situation is not as serious as initially feared. She said Srijato narrowly escaped what could have been a far more severe accident and that he is gradually recovering while following doctors’ instructions.

The accident reportedly occurred near Santragachi while Srijato was returning home after attending a performance. According to his wife, another vehicle hit his car from behind, causing the collision. The sudden impact resulted in the poet sustaining muscle injuries, although fortunately no life-threatening harm was reported.

While Srijato’s physical injuries appear to be minor, the accident caused significant damage to his vehicle. Images and reports suggest that the car was badly affected in the collision, highlighting how serious the incident could have been.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also reportedly reached out to inquire about his health after learning about the accident. Her gesture added to the wave of concern and support coming from various quarters for the well-known literary figure.
