IIE DIGITAL DESK :  May 7, 2026: Actor and dancer Nora Fatehi is set to appear before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday in connection with the ongoing controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar” from the film KD: The Devil. The hearing comes after the commission took suo motu cognisance of the song over allegations of vulgar and objectionable portrayal of women.

The NCW has been examining concerns that the song contains sexually suggestive lyrics and visuals, prompting public criticism and formal complaints. The controversy has already seen several individuals from the film’s cast and production team being summoned, including actor Sanjay Dutt, who previously appeared before the commission and submitted a written apology.

Reports indicate that Fatehi was earlier asked to appear before the panel but had sought a change in date due to being abroad. She has now been directed to appear in person before the commission as part of the ongoing inquiry into the matter.

According to NCW proceedings, the commission has raised concerns over the representation of women in the song and its potential impact on public sensibilities. The panel has also been reviewing responses from the film’s makers, lyricists, and associated artists, many of whom have either issued apologies or clarified their positions.

The song, released on digital platforms earlier this year, sparked widespread backlash soon after its release, leading to its removal from some platforms while continuing to circulate online. The issue has since expanded into a broader debate around creative freedom, censorship, and accountability in the entertainment industry.

While the NCW continues its hearings, Fatehi’s appearance is expected to be a key moment in the ongoing proceedings as the commission evaluates responsibility among performers and creators involved in the project.
