IIE DIGITAL DESK ; East Medinipur, June 12: The political change in the state, visible transformation has also begun in the familiar landscape of Digha. The newly formed BJP government has started removing the iconic ‘Bangla Globe’ structure, which was one of the most recognised symbols of the previous Mamata Banerjee administration’s “Bangla” branding initiative. On Friday morning, work officially began to dismantle the massive ‘Bangla Globe’ located near Gate No. 1 in Old Digha. However, it is still not clear whether any new structure or symbol will replace it in the same location.
The giant globe was originally installed as part of a beautification project initiated during the tenure of then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, under the “Bangla” brand identity campaign. The structure, placed within a well-designed park in Old Digha, had become one of the major tourist attractions in the area over the years.
Local residents and sections of the tourism and business community, the ‘Bangla Globe’ had gradually emerged as a landmark of Digha in recent years, drawing significant attention from visitors and contributing to the identity of the coastal town as a popular tourist destination.
