Authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody from the Belagavi area in Karnataka on Friday, triggering widespread political reactions across the region.

Multiple cases had been registered against him involving allegations of illegal possession of government property, incitement to violence, and extortion. He had reportedly been absconding for some time, and was being actively traced by investigating agencies.
