IIE DIGITAL DESK : Purulia, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer from the district was among the 28 individuals killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, targeted a group of tourists in the Baisaran Valley, a popular meadow near Pahalgam. The assailants, reportedly affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, opened fire on the tourists, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
The IB officer who lost his life in this tragic attack hailed from Purulia district in West Bengal. Identified as Manish Ranjan, he was on vacation with his family in Kashmir when the incident occurred.
