Durgapur | June 24, 2026 : The Raydanga area of Durgapur on Wednesday following allegations of anti-national activity after a Pakistan flag was reportedly found at the residence of a local man. The incident triggered protests from residents, leading to a heated situation that required police intervention to restore order.

Residents of Raydanga—under Ward No. 43 of the Durgapur Municipal Corporation—alleged that a Pakistan flag was spotted in the courtyard of the house belonging to a man identified as Ashrafuddin Ahmed. The discovery on Tuesday morning quickly spread across the locality, sparking anger among sections of the public.

The news circulated, a large group of residents gathered outside the accused person’s residence and staged demonstrations, demanding strict action. The situation escalated as emotions ran high, prompting concerns over possible law and order disturbances in the area.

Personnel from Coke Oven Police Station reached the spot. In order to control the situation and ensure the safety of all parties involved, police took Ashrafuddin Ahmed into custody and shifted him to the police station for questioning.

Authorities also deployed additional police forces in the area to prevent any further escalation and to maintain peace in the locality. Security arrangements were strengthened as officials continued to monitor the situation closely.

Locals have alleged that the accused has a history of sharing anti-national content on social media platforms. Some residents claimed that similar complaints had been raised against him in the past as well, suggesting a pattern of controversial online activity. However, these claims are yet to be independently verified by the authorities.

The other hand, Ashrafuddin Ahmed has strongly denied all allegations leveled against him. He stated that he is being deliberately framed and that there is no truth to the accusations made by local residents. He maintained that the controversy has been created with malicious intent.

Police have initiated a formal investigation into the matter to determine the authenticity of the allegations and to verify the circumstances under which the flag was found. Officials have not yet confirmed whether any legal charges have been filed but have assured that the matter is being looked into seriously.

The incident has created a tense atmosphere in the locality, with security forces continuing to maintain a presence in the area to avoid any further disturbance. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the investigation process.
