IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Balurghat, May 26: Several areas of South Dinajpur district were severely affected by stormy weather and heavy rainfall, causing widespread disruption and damage across the region. Continuous rain and strong winds over the past week have steadily increased the extent of damage, with Monday night’s storm adding further destruction in Balurghat and surrounding areas.

Powerful storm accompanied by heavy rain struck Balurghat city, leading to structural damage in multiple locations. In the Mangalpur area, a large municipal hoarding post was blown down due to strong gusty winds. In the Jalgor area, several large trees were uprooted and fell across the main road, completely blocking traffic movement.

The Balurghat–Tapan road was also severely affected as fallen trees obstructed vehicular movement, bringing traffic to a complete halt for several hours. Commuters were unable to pass through the route due to the blockage caused by debris and uprooted trees.

Kamarpada and Chingishpur areas as well, multiple trees were reported to have been uprooted or broken due to the intensity of the storm. Local administration teams began clearance operations early Tuesday morning, working to remove fallen trees and restore normal traffic flow across affected roads.

Continuing restoration efforts to ensure that transportation and daily activities return to normal as quickly as possible, while assessing the overall damage caused by the repeated storm activity in the district.
