River level rising in Malda, flood situation feared

Malda (August 17,2023) : The water level in the rivers in Malda is rising. The water level in the rivers usually starts to rise from September, but this time the rivers in the district have started to swell due to heavy rains in North India from August itself. As a result, there is a fear of flood in the district from now on.

Yesterday, the water level in various rivers of Malda was above the danger level. The water level of the Kartowar River is 23 centimeters above the danger level, the water level of the Mahananda River is 16 centimeters above the danger level, and the water level of the Ganges River is 13 centimeters above the danger level.

The district administration has started construction of embankments to prevent river erosion. Along with this, relief materials are being stocked in preparation for the flood. Local residents are worried about the possibility of a flood. They have demanded that the administration take immediate action.
