West Bengal (July 25,2023) : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday accused the Left Front government of not giving proper respect to legendary actor Uttam Kumar after his death. Speaking at a public event in Kolkata, Banerjee said that the Left Front government had not allowed the people of Kolkata to pay their last respects to Uttam Kumar when he died in 1980.

"The Left Front government did not allow Uttam Kumar's body to be kept at the Academy of Fine Arts so that the people of Kolkata could pay their last respects to him," Banerjee said. "They took his body directly to the crematorium."

Banerjee also accused the Left Front government of not building a memorial for Uttam Kumar in Kolkata. "We have built a beautiful memorial for Uttam Kumar in Kolkata," she said. "The Left Front government did nothing for him." Banerjee's comments came days after the Left Front accused her government of not doing enough to promote Bengali culture.
