IIE DIGITAL DESK ; North 24 Parganas, May 26: The large number of individuals identified as Bangladeshi nationals gathered on Tuesday morning at the Hakimpur check post in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, amid reports of increased action against undocumented migrants in the state. The group, numbering over a hundred people, was seen assembling at the border point with the intention of returning to Bangladesh.

The individuals were believed to be living in various parts of West Bengal without valid documentation and had come together at the check post following recent administrative directives aimed at identifying and managing cases of illegal residence. The situation comes amid a broader political and administrative push in the state focusing on immigration control and verification processes.

Authorities have reportedly intensified efforts to identify undocumented foreign nationals, with instructions being issued for stricter monitoring and processing through designated holding and verification centres. In this context, the gathering at Hakimpur reflects a developing situation at key border checkpoints where movement of individuals across the India-Bangladesh border is being closely regulated.

The gathering, the individuals began the process of returning to Bangladesh through the official border mechanism at Hakimpur. Officials are overseeing the movement to ensure that the return process is conducted in an orderly manner in accordance with existing procedures at the international crossing point.

The incident highlights the ongoing focus on border management and migration issues in the region, particularly in areas of North 24 Parganas that share proximity with the India-Bangladesh border.
