Body of Youth Recovered from Mahananda River Sandbar, Sensation in Siliguri

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Siliguri, May 22: Siliguri on Friday morning after the body of a young man was recovered from a sandbar of the Mahananda River. The incident took place in the Nokaghat area under Ward No. 31 of the city, drawing large crowds of local residents soon after the news spread.

The resident named Gobinda Das had gone for a morning walk along the riverbank when he noticed a body lying in a wooded area near the riverbed. He immediately informed the police, following which personnel from the New Jalpaiguri police station under the Siliguri Metropolitan Police rushed to the spot.

Police cordoned off the area and began an initial investigation. Officers also spoke to locals in an effort to identify the deceased youth. At this stage, the exact cause of death remains unclear. Investigators are examining whether there were any visible injury marks on the body or signs of foul play.

The body was later recovered by the police and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

The discovery has created panic and tension in the locality, with residents expressing concern over the sudden and unexplained nature of the incident. Further investigation is underway.
