
IIE DIGITAL DESK : Malda, May 22: The Gopalpur area of Manikchak in West Bengal’s Malda district after the tragic drowning deaths of three minor girls in the Ganga river earlier this week. On Friday, local BJP MLA Gaur Chandra Mandal visited the bereaved families to offer condolences and extend support following the devastating incident.
The tragedy occurred on Monday when three minor girls went to bathe in the Ganga river in Gopalpur and were swept away by strong currents. The incident caused widespread shock in the locality. After an extensive search operation, the bodies of all three girls were recovered from the river the following day, deepening the sense of mourning in the region.
Friday, the MLA met the grieving family members at their homes and expressed his sympathy over the loss. He assured them of support from his party and provided some immediate financial assistance to help them cope with the tragedy. Relief materials such as tarpaulins, rice, and other essential items were also distributed for the funeral and related rituals.
The MLA also assured the families that he would try to facilitate further government assistance in the future to help them recover from the loss. His visit brought some comfort to the bereaved families, who are still struggling to come to terms with the sudden tragedy.
The incident has left the entire area in deep mourning, with residents expressing shock over the loss of young lives in the river accident.
