Bengal Weather Update: Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds to Sweep South Bengal, North Bengal Likely to See Relief
IIE DIGITAL: The weather is set to remain unsettled across South Bengal, including Kolkata, with the Alipore Meteorological Department forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by rain in all districts. Gusty winds are also expected during this period. However, the weather office has indicated that the intensity of the adverse conditions will gradually reduce in North Bengal, although isolated showers and thunderstorms may continue in some areas.
According to the latest forecast, moderate rainfall is likely across all districts of South Bengal on Wednesday. Along with rain, strong winds moving at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour may sweep through several parts of the region. Heavy rainfall has been predicted in North and South 24 Parganas, while a yellow alert has been issued across all South Bengal districts.
The weather pattern in South Bengal is expected to remain largely unchanged until Friday. However, from Saturday onwards, rainfall activity may decrease in some areas, including Kolkata and neighbouring districts.
Meanwhile, North Bengal is likely to experience some relief from the recent weather disturbances. The weather department has stated that major storm activity is not expected in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Kalimpong and Cooch Behar on Wednesday. However, isolated thunderstorms with rain may occur in the two Dinajpur districts and Malda.
A similar weather pattern is expected to continue across North Bengal on Thursday. From Friday, no significant storm or heavy rainfall activity has been forecast in the northern districts for the time being.
Kolkata will remain mostly cloudy on Wednesday, with chances of rain accompanied by lightning in some areas. The showers may come with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may hover near 26 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday, Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius, which was 1.9 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature stood at 27.2 degrees Celsius, around 0.7 degrees higher than the usual level.
With monsoon activity continuing across the state, South Bengal is likely to witness more rain and thunderstorms in the coming days, while North Bengal may gradually move towards calmer weather conditions.
