IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Shantipur, June 12: Serious allegations of large-scale corruption, nepotism, and irregularities in the implementation of the ‘Banglar Bari’ housing scheme have triggered political and administrative tension in Shantipur block. A written complaint has been lodged at Shantipur Police Station against the then Block Development Officer (BDO) Sandeep Ghosh by Chanchal Chakraborty, the Vice President of the Shantipur Panchayat Samiti.
The complaint alleges that beneficiary selection under the ‘Banglar Bari’ scheme across several gram panchayats in Shantipur block was carried out in complete violation of official rules. It further states that genuine beneficiaries were denied housing benefits, while influential individuals were allegedly included in the list through favoritism and misuse of power by the former BDO.
As evidence, a list of 20 beneficiaries has been submitted to the police authorities. The complaint also includes allegations that irregularities within self-help group cluster committees were overlooked and administrative decisions were influenced by political pressure rather than established procedures.
Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the District Magistrate of Nadia and the current Block Development Officer. However, there has been no official response from the accused former BDO so far. Police sources confirmed that the complaint has been received and an inquiry process has been initiated to examine the allegations.
