Protesters shouted slogans of “thief” against him, while eggs were also allegedly thrown at his convoy, forcing him to wear a helmet for protection.
Chaos erupted as soon as Abhishek Banerjee entered the Sonarpur area, where he was visiting the residence of a party worker who had allegedly been “attacked.” On the way, near Kamalgachhi, a section of people showed black flags and staged protests against him.
Despite the demonstrations, he continued towards his destination. However, his convoy was reportedly stopped amid heavy protests near the locality where the party worker’s house is situated. The situation escalated further, leading to allegations that he was physically assaulted in the crowd and his shirt was torn during the confrontation.
Sources said that in an attempt to ensure his safety, security personnel later made him wear a helmet. Following the escalation, he reportedly switched to a motorcycle to reach the party worker’s residence as the road remained blocked due to the gathering.
