Agitation in Sonarpur Over Alleged Rs 10 Crore Cooperative Bank Scam

Sonarpur (August 26,2023) : Angry depositors of a cooperative bank in Sonarpur, West Bengal, staged a protest on Saturday, alleging that the bank chairman had embezzled Rs 10 crore. The protesters blocked the National Highway 116 and demanded the arrest of the chairman. They also submitted a memorandum to the police. The bank chairman, identified as Sanjib Singha, has denied the allegations. He said that the bank is facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic and that the allegations are politically motivated.

The police have started an investigation into the matter. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of depositors' money in cooperative banks. It is important for the authorities to take steps to ensure that such scams do not happen in the future.
