IIE DIGITAL DESK : The leaked hands-on video has offered an early look at the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max, revealing a significant redesign that marks a clear departure from its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Shared by well-known tipster Majin Bu on X (formerly Twitter), the video features a dummy unit of the device, giving tech enthusiasts a preview of what Apple might have in store for its next premium flagship.

The most striking change observed in the video is the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s increased thickness. According to reports, the device could measure approximately 8.25mm to 8.75mm thick—noticeably bulkier than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. This change is believed to be a result of Apple integrating a more advanced cooling system, possibly a vapor chamber, and a larger battery to support the device's powerful internals and anticipated artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

The rear design of the phone also showcases a major aesthetic shift. Apple appears to be rethinking the layout of the camera system. The dummy unit in the leaked video reveals a horizontal camera island that spans the entire width of the phone’s back, housing the triple camera array on the left and the LiDAR sensor and LED flash on the right. This layout is a notable departure from the vertical module that has defined recent Pro models. While some have compared it to older smartphone designs from other brands, the change signals Apple’s interest in both functionality and visual distinctiveness.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to come packed with powerful hardware. Reports suggest the device will be powered by the next-generation A19 Pro chip, fabricated using TSMC’s 2nm process. This chip is expected to boost performance significantly while improving power efficiency. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro Max might feature 12GB of RAM—an upgrade that aligns with growing demands for more memory-intensive apps and smoother multitasking, particularly for on-device AI operations.

Camera upgrades are also on the horizon. Industry insiders expect a 48MP telephoto lens for improved zoom capabilities and a 24MP front camera for sharper selfies and video calls. There is also speculation about enhanced night photography and variable aperture features being introduced with this generation.

The increased thickness of the phone may also allow Apple to introduce a higher-capacity battery. Rumors point to a 4,500mAh unit, which would be a significant upgrade over the 4,422mAh battery in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Combined with power-efficient chips and better heat management, this could extend battery life even under heavy usage.

The leaked dummy unit also confirms the presence of the Action Button and USB-C port, both of which debuted in the iPhone 15 Pro series and are now standard across Apple’s flagship line.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to launch in September 2025, following Apple’s usual product release schedule. With its bulkier build, redesigned camera layout, and impressive hardware specifications, it appears that Apple is making bold moves to redefine its flagship smartphone experience. However, it’s important to note that the dummy unit in the video is not a final product but a prototype based on early CAD files and leaked schematics. Therefore, the actual device may still undergo changes before its official reveal.

As the tech world awaits Apple’s confirmation, excitement continues to build over what could be the most advanced iPhone yet—one that not only challenges performance boundaries but also dares to look different.
