IIE DIGITAL DESK | August 3, 2026: Reliance Jio has officially launched the JioTag 2 in India, introducing a new generation of its smart tracking device with support for both Android and iOS ecosystems. The latest tracker is compatible with Google's Find Hub and Apple's Find My services, allowing users to locate their tagged belongings seamlessly through either platform. Succeeding the original JioTag that debuted in 2023, the new device brings significant upgrades, including cross-platform compatibility, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity, community-powered location tracking, a powerful built-in buzzer, a replaceable battery and an IP64-rated design for improved durability.

The JioTag 2 has been introduced at a price of Rs. 1,249 in the Indian market. It is available in three colour options—Black, Green and Red—and can currently be purchased through Amazon India. With its affordable pricing and expanded compatibility, Jio aims to make smart item tracking more accessible to a wider range of smartphone users.

Designed to help users keep track of their everyday valuables, the JioTag 2 can easily be attached to items such as keys, wallets, handbags, backpacks, luggage and other frequently carried belongings. Once paired with a compatible smartphone, the tracker enables users to monitor the location of tagged items using their phone's built-in tracking service. Android users can access the tracker through Google's Find Hub network, while iPhone and iPad users can manage it using Apple's Find My application.

The device relies on Bluetooth Low Energy technology to establish a connection with nearby smartphones while ensuring efficient power consumption. When a tagged item is within Bluetooth range, users can activate the built-in 120dB buzzer directly through the Google Find Hub or Apple Find My app, making it easier to locate misplaced belongings nearby. The loud audio alert is particularly useful for finding items hidden under furniture, inside bags or elsewhere around the home or workplace.

If the tagged item moves beyond Bluetooth range, the JioTag 2 continues to assist users through Google's Find Hub and Apple's Find My community networks. Nearby compatible Android and iOS devices anonymously detect the tracker and securely update its location without revealing the identities of other users. This crowd-sourced location network enables owners to locate lost belongings over much larger distances and significantly increases the chances of recovery.

The tracker also supports Lost Mode, a feature designed to improve the likelihood of retrieving misplaced or lost items. Once Lost Mode is enabled, users receive assistance from the supported community tracking networks whenever the tracker is detected by nearby compatible devices, making it easier to trace missing belongings.

Unlike GPS-based trackers, the JioTag 2 does not require a SIM card, cellular connectivity or an active mobile data plan to function. According to the company, the device provides semi-real-time location updates through Google's Find Hub and Apple's Find My community networks. This allows users to locate tagged belongings not only within their local area but also across cities, countries and even different continents, depending on the availability of compatible devices participating in the tracking network.

Powering the JioTag 2 is a replaceable battery that Jio claims can last for up to one year under normal usage. To enhance convenience, the company also includes an extra replacement battery inside the retail box. Since the tracker uses replaceable batteries, users do not need to recharge the device, making long-term maintenance simple and hassle-free.

In terms of durability, the JioTag 2 features an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance, offering protection against everyday environmental conditions such as dust exposure and light splashes of water. The tracker is built with a sturdy polycarbonate body and includes an integrated mounting hole, allowing it to be securely attached to keychains, bags, luggage or other personal belongings without requiring additional accessories.

The device measures 101 x 62 x 17mm and weighs just 30 grams, making it lightweight, compact and easy to carry. With support for both Android and Apple tracking ecosystems, long battery life, durable construction and an affordable price, the JioTag 2 is positioned as a versatile smart tracker for users looking to keep their valuables safe and easily traceable across multiple devices and platforms.
