IIE DIGITAL DESK ; June 25: Vinicius Junior continued his sensational form at the FIFA World Cup with another dazzling performance, while Neymar made his long-awaited return to international football after nearly three years as Brazil stormed into the knockout stage with a commanding 3-0 victory over Scotland.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side produced one of their most convincing displays of the tournament so far in the match played in Florida, which concluded on Thursday morning (Indian time). Brazil dominated large portions of the contest and secured all three points thanks to a brilliant brace from Vinicius and another goal from Matheus Cunha.

The victory ensured Brazil finished at the top of Group C with seven points from three matches, having recorded two wins and one draw. Morocco also ended the group stage with seven points after defeating Haiti 4-2 in the other group fixture. However, Brazil's superior goal difference allowed the five-time world champions to claim first place, while Morocco advanced to the knockout rounds as runners-up.

Scotland, despite suffering a heavy defeat, remain in contention for a place among the tournament’s best eight teams. They finished third in the group with three points. Haiti, meanwhile, bowed out of the competition after losing all three of their group-stage matches.

Brazil looked significantly sharper than they had in their opening two games. The South Americans controlled 54 percent of possession and created numerous opportunities throughout the match. They attempted 21 shots, nine of which were on target, demonstrating their attacking superiority. Scotland fought hard and managed 14 attempts of their own, but only five tested the Brazilian goalkeeper.

The star of the evening was once again Vinicius Junior. The Real Madrid forward tormented the Scottish defence with his pace, movement, and clinical finishing. His two goals took his tally for the tournament to four, making him one of the standout performers of this World Cup so far.

Matheus Cunha also played a key role, adding Brazil’s third goal and helping maintain relentless pressure on Scotland throughout the contest. His contribution capped another impressive attacking display from a Brazilian side that appears to be gaining momentum at the perfect stage of the tournament.

Perhaps the most emotional moment of the match arrived in the 76th minute when Neymar stepped onto the pitch to a thunderous ovation from the crowd. Replacing Cunha, the Brazilian superstar made his first appearance for the national team in 981 days. The return of Brazil’s all-time leading scorer was greeted with excitement by teammates and fans alike, marking a significant milestone in his recovery and comeback journey.

Although Neymar did not have enough time to make a major impact on the scoreline, his presence alone lifted the atmosphere and provided a major boost for Brazil as they prepare for the knockout rounds. With Vinicius in red-hot form and Neymar back in the squad, Brazil’s hopes of lifting another World Cup trophy have received a significant boost.

Having finished the group stage unbeaten and on top of Group C, Brazil now head into the knockout phase full of confidence, while Scotland must wait to learn whether their World Cup journey will continue despite the disappointing defeat.
