IIE Digital Desk: The BCCI announced the squad for India's upcoming T20I series against the West Indies on Friday, and there were a few surprises. Rinku Singh, who had a breakout IPL season with Kolkata Knight Riders, was not included in the squad, while Tilak Varma, who is still relatively inexperienced, got a maiden call-up.

Singh's exclusion has been met with some criticism, as he had a batting average of 36.50 and a strike rate of 142.39 in the IPL this year. However, the selectors may have felt that he was not as versatile as Varma, who can bat in the top order or in the middle order.

Varma, who plays for Mumbai Indians, had an impressive IPL season as well, scoring 333 runs at an average of 30.27 and a strike rate of 134.45. He is a left-handed batsman who can also bowl some off-spin, and he is seen as a potential future star for India.

The other notable inclusion in the squad is Sanju Samson, who returns to the team after being dropped for the recent T20I series against Sri Lanka. Samson is a talented batsman who has been in good form in domestic cricket, and he will be looking to make a strong case for his place in the team for the T20 World Cup later this year.
