IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, April 21: The Kolkata Knight Riders finally broke their poor run of form by securing a much-needed victory against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens on Sunday, a result that brought relief and emotional moments for the team after a difficult start to the season. The win marked their second points of the campaign, lifting them slightly in the standings after a string of disappointing performances.

Despite the celebration, emotions ran high after the match as several players were seen in tears inside the dressing room. While cricketers like Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku Singh were visibly emotional after ending the losing streak, a touching moment also emerged when Rajasthan Royals’ young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi was seen breaking down near the Eden dressing room area, hiding his face under his cap. The emotional reaction quickly went viral, with many fans praising his passion and competitive spirit at such a young age.

Even after the victory, concerns remain within the Knight Riders camp. Chasing a modest target of 155, the batting lineup once again struggled to maintain consistency, making the contest unexpectedly tense despite being in control at several stages. A key moment that could have changed the match came when Rinku Singh dropped a crucial catch, which might have allowed Rajasthan Royals to tilt the game in their favour.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane openly admitted the team’s shortcomings after the match, particularly highlighting their continued struggles in the powerplay overs. He acknowledged that the side is repeatedly failing to build strong starts, which is putting pressure on the middle order and making even small chases difficult.

Rahane’s own form has also become a major concern. The skipper has registered consecutive ducks in recent matches, adding to scrutiny over his batting and leadership. Historically, he has had instances of poor runs in T20 cricket, and critics have begun questioning both his place as an opener and his captaincy decisions. The pressure is further mounting on head coach Abhishek Nayar as the team continues to search for stability.

With the next fixture against Lucknow Super Giants approaching, KKR have opted to rest the squad briefly before travelling for the away game. The upcoming match is crucial for both sides, as Lucknow too have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit just above KKR in the points table.

The franchise faces a challenging road if it hopes to revive its playoff hopes. While the recent win has provided temporary relief, consistent batting failures—especially in the powerplay—remain a major issue that needs urgent attention.

KKR will hope that their first breakthrough victory serves as a turning point, allowing them to regain momentum when they return to Eden Gardens later in the tournament, keeping their playoff ambitions alive, however slim they may be.
