Chirag Shetty Rules the World from the Mid-Court

IIE Digital Desk : Indian badminton star Chirag Shetty has become the first Indian male shuttler to win the World Championships title, partnering Satwiksairaj Rankireddy to claim the men's doubles crown in Huelva, Spain.

The 24-year-old Shetty, who hails from Mumbai, and his partner Rankireddy, 21, defeated China's Liu Yuchen and Ou Xuanyi 17-21, 21-12, 23-21 in a thrilling final that lasted an hour and 17 minutes. Shetty and Rankireddy, who are ranked world No. 7, were playing in their first World Championships final. They had previously reached the semifinals in 2019.

Shetty, who is known for his aggressive and attacking game from the mid-court, was the star of the show in the final. He was clinical in his execution of the smashes and drop shots, and he also showed great court awareness and movement.

Rankireddy, who is more of a defensive player, played a supporting role in the final. He was solid in the defence and he also provided Shetty with some valuable points with his smashes. The win is a major breakthrough for Shetty and Rankireddy. It is their first major title together, and it will give them a major boost ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
