India booked their place in the final with a commanding performance against Sri Lanka in the second semi-final. Batting first, India posted a competitive 169 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Ishan Kishan produced a superb unbeaten knock of 80 runs, holding the Indian innings together and providing the acceleration needed towards the end. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also made a valuable contribution with 38 runs as India managed to put a challenging total on the board.

Sri Lanka faced an uphill task from the very beginning of their chase. The Indian bowling attack put immediate pressure on the opposition and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah was among the key performers with the ball while Axar Patel and the other Indian bowlers kept the Sri Lankan batters under constant pressure. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 45 runs as India completed a massive 124 run victory and sealed their place in the gold medal match.

Pakistan had already secured their place in the final after defeating Bangladesh in the other semi-final. Their progression meant that the possibility of a blockbuster India Pakistan final remained alive. With India now joining Pakistan in the title clash, the much anticipated contest has officially become a reality.

The final will be played on October 3 and the gold medal in men’s cricket at the Asian Games 2026 will be decided between the two South Asian rivals. Both teams have made it through the knockout stage and will now meet in a completely new contest where previous results will have little relevance.
