Dehradun (July 18, 2023): The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued an alert for possible inundation of low-lying areas and landslides in hilly areas of Uttarakhand following continuous rainfall in parts of the state.

The MeT department has said that heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Koti, Mussoorie Tehsil/Block in Dehradun, and Laksar Block/Tehsil in Haridwar districts. People in these areas have been advised to remain alert.

Earlier on Monday, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued a pregnant woman and a small girl from Laksar. The two were stranded in a house that had been submerged due to waterlogging.

The MeT department has forecast widespread rainfall in Uttarakhand over the next few days. People in the state have been advised to take precautions and stay safe.

Call to action:

  • Stay updated on the weather forecast and be prepared for possible flooding or landslides.
  • If you live in a low-lying area, move to higher ground if necessary.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid walking or driving through flooded areas.
  • If you see a landslide, move away from the area immediately and report it to the authorities.
