IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, August 1: The beginning of August has brought significant relief for businesses across India as the Central Government has announced a substantial reduction in the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders. The revised prices came into effect nationwide from Saturday, August 1, providing much-needed relief to commercial establishments that depend heavily on LPG for their daily operations. Among all the metropolitan cities, Kolkata has witnessed the highest reduction in the price of commercial LPG cylinders.

Under the revised rates, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Kolkata has been reduced by ₹209, bringing the new retail price down to ₹2,872.50 per cylinder. In the national capital, Delhi, the price of the same commercial cylinder has been cut by ₹202. Similar reductions have also been implemented in other major cities, although the decrease in Kolkata remains the highest among the country's metro markets.

While the sharp reduction in commercial LPG prices is expected to provide considerable financial relief to businesses, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households. As a result, domestic consumers will continue to pay the existing rates for cooking gas, with the latest revision applying only to commercial LPG cylinders.

Industry experts believe the reduction in commercial LPG prices will significantly lower the operating costs of businesses such as restaurants, hotels, catering services, roadside eateries, food stalls, bakeries, and other establishments that rely extensively on commercial cooking gas. Lower fuel costs are expected to improve profit margins for businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises that have been facing rising operational expenses in recent months.

Economists also suggest that the decline in commercial LPG prices could indirectly benefit consumers if businesses choose to pass on part of the reduced operating costs through lower prices for food and related services. Although there is no immediate assurance of price cuts for customers, the reduction is expected to ease cost pressures across several sectors of the hospitality and food service industries.

The latest revision is being viewed as a positive development for commercial establishments, especially as businesses continue to manage fluctuating fuel costs and broader economic challenges. The reduction in commercial LPG cylinder prices is expected to improve business sentiment and provide additional financial flexibility for enterprises that depend on LPG as a primary source of energy.

Despite the relief for the commercial sector, domestic consumers will have to wait for any revision in household cooking gas prices, as the government has kept the rates of 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinders unchanged. Consequently, the benefits of the latest price revision will be limited to commercial users from August 1, while households will continue to purchase domestic LPG cylinders at the prevailing prices.
