IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, March 24 — Southern parts of South Bengal are once again bracing for a fresh spell of storms and rainfall over the upcoming weekend. Meteorological conditions indicate that atmospheric disturbances are far from over, with a renewed surge of moisture expected to trigger unstable weather across several districts.

The formation of a cyclonic circulation combined with an ակտիվ trough line has led to the inflow of significant moisture from the Bay of Bengal into the landmass. This interaction is likely to create favorable conditions for thunderstorms accompanied by rain and gusty winds, particularly towards the latter half of the week.

Forecasts suggest that between Friday and Sunday, multiple districts across South Bengal, including Kolkata, could experience intermittent rainfall along with strong winds. Areas such as Hooghly, Jhargram, Nadia, West Burdwan, East Burdwan, Bankura, and Purulia are expected to witness relatively more intense weather activity on Friday. The impact of this system is already being felt in some regions, with thunderstorms likely to continue in districts like Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, and the Burdwan region even on Tuesday.

Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures are not likely to drop significantly. In fact, a parallel rise in temperature may be observed, adding to the discomfort caused by humid conditions. On Tuesday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 23.4 degrees Celsius, which is slightly below normal by 0.7 degrees, but the overall trend suggests a gradual increase in heat levels in the coming days.

Northern parts of the state have seen a noticeable reduction in rainfall intensity compared to previous days. For now, North Bengal is not expected to experience any heavy rainfall, offering temporary relief to residents in that region.

With changing weather patterns and the likelihood of sudden storms, authorities have urged residents across South Bengal to remain cautious and stay updated with official forecasts as the weekend approaches.
