IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, August 1: The Bijpur Police Station in North 24 Parganas district has achieved a major breakthrough while investigating an illegal arms-related case. Acting on information provided by a previously arrested accused, police conducted a special operation and recovered five single-shot country-made revolvers and six live cartridges.

According to police sources, a case was registered at Bijpur Police Station on July 22 under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, following which a person named Ajay Kumar Mali, son of late Ram Niwas Mali, was arrested in connection with the illegal possession of weapons.

During interrogation while in police custody, the accused allegedly revealed that additional illegal firearms and ammunition had been hidden at another location. Based on the information provided by him, investigators launched a targeted search operation to recover the concealed weapons.

Following the accused’s statement, Bijpur Police conducted a special raid late Friday night near Halishahar Chowmatha. During the operation, police recovered five country-made revolvers along with six rounds of live ammunition from the area.

The recovery is being considered a significant achievement in the police campaign against the illegal arms network operating in the region. Authorities are now investigating the source of the weapons and attempting to determine how they entered the area.

Police officials are also examining whether the recovered firearms were intended to be used for any criminal activity or were linked to any ongoing illegal operations. The investigation is currently underway, and further details are expected as police continue questioning the accused and gathering additional information.

The Bijpur Police have intensified their efforts to identify individuals involved in the illegal supply and distribution of firearms and prevent criminal activities associated with unauthorised weapons. The latest recovery is expected to provide important leads in tracing the wider network behind the illegal arms trade in the area.
