IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, October 3: West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose suddenly fell ill and was admitted to a private hospital near the city’s Bypass on Friday night after experiencing chest pain.

According to hospital sources, his condition is currently stable. Rathindranath Bose had attended programmes marking Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri on Friday. He also had several other engagements scheduled during the day. After returning home following the programmes, he suddenly complained of chest pain.

His family members immediately took him to a private hospital near the Bypass, where he was admitted and treatment was started promptly. He underwent several medical examinations and tests. Hospital sources said that his condition has improved and that he is currently under observation by doctors.

Rathindranath Bose has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for a long time and later entered active politics. He contested the 2026 Assembly elections from the Cooch Behar South constituency. He defeated Trinamool Congress candidate Abhijit De Bhowmik by more than 23,000 votes. He became an MLA for the first time and was subsequently chosen unanimously as the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly.
